Why restore Windows Server 2003 system image backup?Windows Server 2003 Repair Disk
1 Open an elevated command prompt. 2 Type the command below you want to use into the elevated command prompt, and press Enter. (see screenshots below) This will list all shadow copies (restore points) on all or specific drives. You will see the volume drive letter and shadow copy ID number for each one. This doesn’t mean system restore won’t work in server 2003, it just means they didn’t install it. So first what we’re going to need to do is right click on sr.inf and select ’install’, to install. I know in windows XP we could do a ’system restore’ from a particular point in time. Is the same possible in windows2003 server. If yes, how can it be done, what is teh command or where is it accessable from. On the System Applet, Click the System Restore tab, 2. Check the Turn off System Restore box, 3. Click OK, then click Yes. This will initiate the restore point purging process.
With the daily use of Windows Server 2003, there are many unexpected factors that could causethe system crash or cause a hard drive failing to our computer. These factors may be,hardware conflict, bad ram, hard disk drives overload, viruses or hacker attack, softwareconflict, power supply problems, and some unknown reasons.
We can clone hard drive in Windows Server 2003 to solve hard disk driveoverload or failure. Yet to fix all of them, we have another two choices. One is tore-install the operating system, settings, and all applications, which may cost us hours. However, if we backup C drive for Server 2003 ahead of time, we can choose the other quickand fast way, restore the computer from system image backup. How to restore Windows Server 2003 system files?
First of all, we might think of using Windows Server 2003 internal backup tool to restore theoperating system. Nevertheless, Windows Server 2003 does not embed with one automatic systemrestore feature like Windows XP, Vista do. Due to this factor, the system doesn’tautomatically create restore points for the computer current state. This means we cannotrestore Windows Server 2003 to previous state.
In this case, two options are placed in front of us. One is to download System Restore. Theother option involves manually creating a restore point for the computer’s current stateusing Windows Server 2003’s System State.
Click “Restore and Mange Media” tab after backup system state, check the boxnext to “System State”, and start the restore.
Before we use this tanglesome and roundabout method to do a system restoration, there is onething we should pay attention to: Windows Server 2003 Backup utility (NTBackup.exe) is abackup and restore tool that based on files. This means it will backup and restorefile-by-file. As the master server of companies or organizations, it is inevitable toproducing masses of files, registries, photos and so on.
Thus, either to backup Windows Server 2003 or to restore Windows Server backup image is atime-consuming thing for NTBackup. We could imagine how much time it would cost to restorethe operating system, settings, and so many applications.

Can I restore Windows Server 2003 to dissimilar hardware with Acronis True Image Echo Workstation with Acronis Universal Restore?
I am not getting the ’Use Universal Restore’ option, and I suspect it is because I am
trying to use the Workstation product to restore an Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.
The Universal Restore option is required because the target hardware LSI SAS disk drivers are not present in the *.tib.Windows Server 2003 Restore Point
The .tib backup of the Windows 2003 Enterprise Server was captured using Acronis True
Image Echo Workstation with Acronis Universal Restore disk; that was all I had at the time.
What Acronis product will enable me to restore this .tib file to dissimilar hardware using the Universal Restore option?
Note: Since the Windows Server 2003 has already been relocated, taking a new backup of it with another product is a difficult option.
Thanks

Hello David!Windows Server 2003 Create Restore Point
Welcome to our Forum, it’s nice to have you with us! I understand your concern, and will be glad to shed the light to the situation.
Unfortunately your assumption is correct: as Acronis True Image Echo Workstation supports only Workstations OS, it’s Acronis Universal Restore won’t recognize server OS either. And as far as Acronis Universal Restore cannot detect the supported OS in the image it won’t appear.
In order to restore the image I’d advise you to use Acronis Backup and Recovery Server for Windows + Acronis Universal Restore. The GUI in this Acronis product is different, so you might find these instructions with step-by-step screenshots useful.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
